Mealtimes at the nursery

blueThe Cottage Nursery has a ‘Healthy Eating Policy’ which it asks parents to bear in mind when making the daily packed lunch, we would be happy to send you a copy on request.

The Cottage Nursery is a Nut-Free zone, so we ask parents not to send in anything with any nuts in, unfortunately this also includes chocolate spread as it may be ‘Nutella’!

We are very aware of food allergies and will accommodate any that we are notified of.  Our tea menu lists all known allergens.

We employ a full time cook who prepares all our food fresh each day.  The last inspection of our kitchen by the Food Standards Agency was done on 27th March 2017 when we were awarded a Food Hygiene rating of 5 (very good) – the highest you can get!  In addition to our cook with have 5 other members of staff who all hold Food Safety & Hygiene level 2 qualifications.

Breakfast – For children who are booked in from 8.00 am we can provide a breakfast of cereals and toast, children must be at the nursery no later than 8.15 am for this meal.  Unfortunately we cannot serve breakfast after 8.15 am as the children move into their rooms by 8.30 am.

Snacktime – The nursery provides a healthy snack during each morning and afternoon session, we offer various different fruits and toast, crackers, fruit loaf, pitta bread… (we only ever offer wholemeal bread and soya spread!) The children are offered either milk or water to drink.  Sometimes the children even get to make their own snack! There is no charge for these snacks.
